One step closer to realizing Mohd. Hatim’s dream

Hello friends, we’re now in the first week of August and I have until the end of August/September to complete my pledge for Mohd. Hatim. The journey hasn’t been easy especially one is a final year Political Science student, trying to juggle not only his studies but also all the other stuff going on at the same time.

Latest update from the project is that the *photo outing with Mr. Hatim will be held on the 13th of August 2010 (Friday) *and the photo exhibition will be held tentatively on the *31st of August 2010 (Tuesday)* in conjunction with our country’s Merdeka Day. Exact time and location will be confirmed as soon as I get the details sorted out with Mrs. Hatim.

Anyway, I’ve also hosted a copy of the proposal that I’ve prepared, detailing my pledge plan for Mr. Hatim as well as the expected expenses that this project may cost. You may read the proposal hosted on Scribd here.

Ultimately we are now in need of sponsors who are able to help us to absorb the cost of printing and framing of the photographs (roughly RM800-RM1000) that Mohd. Hatim will be taking during the photo outing as well as to pay for the cost of renting a place for the exhibition. We have a great place in mind but it’ll take a lot of effort from everyone to make it happen :)

If you would like to make a direct financial contribution, you may do so by donating straight into Mohd Hatim’s daughter’s account, as detailed below. Also, all proceeds will go into the funding of the project as well as to help Mr. Hatim with his medical treatment.

Name: NUR ASIKIN BINTI MOHAMAD HATIM
No. IC: 920420-14-5444
Maybank Acc. No.: 162487095603

Once you’ve made your donations, please email me (kingchai.woon@gmail.com) your name and amount of money that you donated so that I can keep an account of the donors and the amount that we have raised in this campaign. Here are the accounts as of 4/8/2010:

  1. 23/7/2010 – Adi Zafran Abdullah – RM200.00
  2. 25/7/2010 – Ong Jo-Lene – RM20.00
Thanks and will update soon on the location of the photo outing and the photo exhibition. Laters!

First meeting with Mr. Hatim at NASAM PJ

As mentioned in my previous post, I met up with Mr. Hatim today at NASAM PJ and it was a really good and productive first meeting. We ran through the pledge plan together and he shared with me some of his past works and experience in photography. Turns out that he was a *professional photographer for PETRONAS* for the past *19 years* and he has given me his permission share some of his photographs here online.

Mr. Hatim’s wish in this campaign is actually very straight forward, which is to take photographs or go on a photo outing with the aid of a tripod stand. However, I did have some ideas of my own to take this pledge one step further, which is to host a photo exhibition in honour of Mr. Hatim. Since this pledge is about fulfilling Mr. Hatim’s wish, I ran my idea through Mr. Hatim and he was very excited and supportive about the idea of a photo exhibition!

However, we also realized the limitations that we might face in the organizing of the photo outing and exhibition because being a self-funded personal initiative, we have very limited resources and funds to put into the fulfillment of Mr. Hatim’s wish. For the record, Mr. Hatim is at a very early stage of recovering from stroke, and he will be wheelchair bound until he recovers his ability to walk. And personally I do not want to put the burden of looking for fundings to fulfill this pledge on Mr. Hatim and his family’s shoulders because after all, we are here to fulfill his wish.

If any of you are interested to chip in and help out, in terms of financial assistance for the organizing and running of the photo outing and exhibition, please don’t hesitate to contact me at kingchai.woon[AT] gmail.com or drop me a message on Facebook at facebook.com/kingchai for more info.

I will also continually update this blog http://kopikluang.blogspot.comwith progress of the pledge plan as well as with regards to raising of funds for the photo outing and the exhibition. So now that I have gotten the green light from Mr. Hatim himself, I shall end this post with some of Mr. Hatim’s past works as a prelude to our coming photo outing and exhibition. I will post them up in batches :)

Excited over first meeting with Mr. Hatim!

Hello everyone!

This is actually my first blog post/update regarding my own efforts in fulfilling my pledge for this excellent campaign started by TLC. I think this is a great way to get the community involved in creating positive impact to the lives of those who may not be as fortunate as many of us are.

I think it’s only proper if I give a short introduction about myself too. My name is Woon King Chai and I’m a final year student currently pursuing a degree in the field of Political Science at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. I strongly believe that other than excelling in one’s studies at school, one should also strive to get involved with issues concerning the society. Thus, when I was first told about this great initiative by TLC from my Local Committee President at AIESEC UKM, Ms. Chan, I immediately jumped on-board!

My pledge in this campaign is to fulfill Mr. Hatim’s wish of wanting to go on a photography outing, with the aid of a tripod stand. I was also told that if possible, the pledge should be fulfilled by the end of August, so I figured I only have about a month plus to get cracking and I need to work fast!

My first order of business is to actually sit down with Mr. Hatim and discuss with him to get more information as to how he would like to have his wish fulfilled. I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve and I will only share them with the rest of you here on this blog after I get the green light from Mr. Hatim :)

Speaking of which, I just got off the phone with Ms. Nancy, a really nice lady from NASAM and she has informed me that our first meeting is happening tomorrow at NASAM PJ! So, I’ll get to meet Mr. Hatim tomorrow and run through some details with him before going any further with my plan.

Hope that all will go well for tomorrow! Exciting times ahead!

Mohd Hatim

Mohd Hatim was once a professional photographer with a renowned company.  His wish is to spend an outing just to take photographs with the aid of a tripod stand.
