TLC Promise Me Recognition Ceremony

What : TLC Promise Me Recognition Ceremony
When : 10 November 2010
Where : ZEHN Function Hall [at] Bangsar

This was one event that I’ve missed out due to work commitment. I was kinda disappointed for not being able to attend this recognition ceremony because I thought it would be something really meaningful and wonderful.

Remember the TLC Promise Me Campaign I took part in a few months back? If you don’t, you can always read about the post here again :) I’m proud to announce to all that all participants have fulfilled the pledges they made, that includes me! :D :D

It was one simple event where all the participants of the campaign went up the stage to collect their certificates. Because I wasn’t there, Michelle – the sexy blogger manager went up the stage in behalf of me from Madam Julia Chong, the CEO of TLC.

Cindy, Kimberly and Saimatkong – the blogger who took part in the campaign and attended the ceremony.. Picture taken from Kimberly’s blog. Awww I wished I was there…

Besides that, Kimberly was invited up stage share my experience participating in this campaign :) She has done great in this campaign! She actually managed to raised up quite a big amount of funds which was good enough to get 3 brand new hospital beds to Goo Tyng Tong and his friends. You can read more about her pledge here!

The group picture of some of the many Promise Me participants! :D

And this is my certificate! I feel proud and great of myself. Not only because I was being recognised but the fact that I’ve actually made a little boy’s wish come true! :) Although the fund wasn’t very high compared to the others, but really I truly thank everyone who has contributed in this. I wouldn’t have made it without the support and sponsors of you guys. I shall share this credit to everyone who helped!

Thanks so much! And I’m also thanking you guys in behalf of Little Nazhim. He must be good at cycling already!!! :)

Promise Fulfilled :)

We are now in the last week of TLC Promise Me Campaign and its pledge. Unfortunately I cant visit little Nazhim this week due to my schedule, but the good thing is that – he has already knew how to ride the bicycle we’ve got him in the proper way! That means actually I’ve gotten his wish fulfilled even on the 2nd week itself :) Weee that’s because Nazhim learns quick! I’m proud of him!

As for the fund raising, I’ve collected a total of RM380 and counting! I’m still collecting the funds. It’s not the amount but its the thought that counts! I’ll accept any amount of the donation from anyone of you! You must be thinking why am I still collecting the funds since I’ve already gotten him a bike and even taught him to ride on it. Well, nothing will be too much because I’ll be getting Rumah Aman the necessaries with the donations. During the last trip, I’ve gotten them eggs, breads, fruits, mee hon, toilet cleaner and etc (as of their requests shown).

I’m gonna bring them more when I collect more funds too! Please do help these kids :)

I don’t really know how to say it but I’m really really glad to help Nazhim and Rumah Aman, arent you glad if you get to help someone? We must feel blessed for being lucky. And when we are lucky, we should always lend a helping hand! I feel so accomplished when I get to fulfill Nazhim’s wish. I’ve made and fulfilled a promise :)

Anyway, you can watch a few TLC Promise Me Campaign promotional videos here too! But please don’t laugh at me for my oily face. It was the lighting. It wasn’t me. Pfft. I will come up with the campaign and pledge’s wrap up post very soon. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, you may drop by to Cindy Tey, Kimberlycun, Saimatkong and Proudduck’s blogs for more TLC Promise Me Campaign pledges’ update.

Promise in Action #02

Hello, wondering how’s the progress of the TLC Promise Me Campaign and the pledge I took up? I went to Rumah Aman again during last Saturday for little Nazhim. During the trip, I’ve brought along things they needed (posted outside of Rumah Aman) – eggs, breads, fruits, mee hon, toilet cleaner and the list goes on with the donations collected from my blog here. Thank you contributors :)

This time around, he wasn’t as quiet and shy as before. He spoke so so so much! And he could ride the bike so much better. He must have been practicing! :) He can now make a perfect U-turn, even I cant T__________T Oh, and I caught him smiling away when I tried to show off my cycling skills, obviously it wasn’t good………

That day, we cut down on the cycling lesson because he has already knew everything he needs to! So instead of cycling, Nazhim, Liliane – my colleague and I spent about an hour talking to him. He seemed like he was in the mood for talking tho. He talked so much. Okay, I know I’ve been saying that but it’s true! Hahahaha.

We asked him if he was happy to receive the bike, if he was happy to know how to ride. And what really is his objectives and goals. We talked about his hobbies, his daily activities, joked with him and them laughing at my Malay language T_T We had a great time talking :)

Heeee. In case if you still want to donate as the fund raising is still open for all, please click here to contact me! I will update more about the campaign again soon, meanwhile you get to read on the other participants’ pledges here. And do follow the twitter account here for instant updates! :)

Promise in Action…

First of all, I wanna thank everyone who has contributed in the fund raising of TLC Promise Me Campaign as your support has helped me in fulfilling Little Nazhim’s wish to own and learn riding a bicycle! Fund contributors’ list can be found here. Whether you have donated money in the fund, bought their needs for them or shown effort towards this project, THANK YOU because I’ve gotten Nazhim his bicycle! :)

#01 My very helpful colleagues and I headed to Rumah Aman located in Shah Alam yesterday noon right after we knocked off from work. This is how Rumah Aman looked like if you ever want to pay a visit and bring them some donation.

#02 Besides bringing little Nazhim his bicycle, we brought them eggs and vermicelli noodles too as these were stated on the board shown above during my last trip to Rumah Aman. Now, these are what they need and these are what I’m going to get them when I’m going there next weekend. Is there anyone here who would like to contribute a little? Contact me!

#03 As we arrived, the little ones were taking their nap but I had to disturb and wake little Nazhim up to receive his surprise!

#04 Look at their little school shoes! :3 And those people behind the picture were some really nice people who dropped by with some donations and food – they brought them KFC as dinner!

#05 Anyway, I was kinda nervous because it was my first time meeting little Nazhim, my beneficiary. But before meeting up, Encik Azam once again took us for a short tour in Rumah Aman because this time I came with different friends. They were really surprised and impressed on how organised and clean this orphanage is!

We took a lot of pictures around and this is one of it – their bed and self-painted wardrobe in their rooms.

#06 Colours coordinated toothbrushes! :3

#07 And let’s say hello to little Nazhim! He is really one very very very very quite boy. And it was very hard for us to make him talk. Probably that we are strangers to him. But hey, we were so determined and cute – how can he not talk to us right? Hehehehe. We broke the ice :)

#08 Both May and Advan are suiting him up with the protection gears; just in case he falls while learning.

#09 He was very happy upon receiving the gift! We can see that from his eyes although he did not say anything. And then, we started the cycling class 101 by teaching him the basics first. Like how do we stabilize the bike, how to ride it the right way, how to brake this and that. However, we had only a small area of the compound to teach him; it is not a very good idea to teach him on the busy roads.

#10 Ignore that distracting stuff please. I was holding the bike when he was starting off to cycle. Little Nazhim actually has a little bit of cycling basics already judging from the way he starts to cycle. His guardian told me that he cycled for a couple of times before back in his hometown therefore it wasn’t very hard for us to teach him more!

#11 Hehehe. I told him to name his bike but he moved his shoulders up and down telling me he didn’t know what to name it.

#12 Teaching him to ride on slanting roads and braking slowly while going down the inclined roads.

#13 Little Nazhim on his bike. I’m not sure about the other kids in Rumah Aman as this will be the only bike in the house but I’ve told Nazhim to share it whenever he has to :) Sharing is caring!

Here’s a short video of Little Nazhim cycling. Please ignore my squeaky voice.

#14 Hehehehe happy people! And I think among us four, little Nazhim prefer my friend – Advan. I think its because the bike was fixed by him. Pfft.

#15 Did I mention that little Nazhim is a fast learner? And he is really brave. I remember I was really timid when I was learning to ride a bike. He can really master the skills we taught him by a blink of an eye. I’m so proud of him ah!

#16 Little Nazhim telling his guardian how happy he was while riding the bike. Besides Nazhim, the adults were also very happy and glad to see him enjoying with his ride. I am really happy. I really am; to see myself fulfilling this little kid’s wish.

#17 Before we called it a day, four of us took individual pictures with the happy little kid. The girls – May and I.

#18 And the guys – Steven and Advan.

#19 I gave him a polaroid photo of both of us too, as a bonus gift :) We calls that magic photo because the colour pops up in the picture slowly and it was something new for him. Awww.

#20 As we were leaving, we were also invited to join the kids for a tea break. We joined for awhile as we didn’t really want to bother the kids while eating. And that we were also hungry ;p Trust me, all the kids in the house are very well-mannered and cute! :) Heee.

I can’t wait for the next weekend to come so I can see them and teach little Nazhim again. If you guys wish to donate to the house; doesnt matter if its in cash or food form, let me know! I’m more than happy to pass it to them in behalf of you! You may contact me via here :) For more information, click here. Promise in Progress…

It wasn’t any typical Monday that I’ve been through on the last Monday. Instead, I thought it was one of the very meaningful Mondays I’ve spent. It was right after an exhibition organised by my company, therefore I was entitled a replacement leave on the following day. I took the whole morning resting at home. Had a short talk with mum. Cleaned up my room. Played the guitar. Went to the bank and settled some stuff. Everything was in slow motion mode.

Later in the noon, I headed to Rumah Aman located in Shah Alam along with Ginny and Jane. Rumah Aman is a non profit organisation established to provide the best environment to raise orphaned children and children from poor families by focusing on giving them a good education, so that they become successful individuals and leaders.

In Rumah Aman, they have a number of little Muslim boys that are really obedient, organised, well-mannered, disciplined and cute! And yes, one of them is my lucky beneficiary, Nazhim. I traveled all the way there, taking up more than 40 minutes of journey to meet up this little boy but it did disappoint me a little when I didn’t get to see him there as he was in the afternoon classes at school.

However, it wasn’t a wasted journey and effort. I meet up with Mr. Azam, the Charity Liaison Officer of Rumah Aman and he gave us a warm tour in Rumah Aman. We were really surprised and impressed by how organised Rumah Aman was. Everything was minimal, organised and clean. I’m pretty sure that it is definitely a very warm place for the less fortunate to be in. I did not get to take any pictures during the tour, not sure if I could but I’ll definitely share more on the environment there in the upcoming posts.

Right after that, I headed to Bangsar Shopping Centre for the media launch of TLC Promise Me Campaign which was officiated by YB Dato’ Shahrizat Jalil – Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Malaysia. During the launch, VIPs were invited upstage to share their perspectives and thoughts of the campaign. Some made very meaningful and touching remarks.

Up on the stage, YB Dato’ Shahrizat Jalil took up 3 pledges too. One of them was really interesting where a little boy wishes for army to march in Rumah Aman. Awww. I wish I could witness it.

A group picture taken with YB, Julia Chong and the other participants from ELC, AIESEC and Nuffnang.

The blogger participants from Nuffnang (from left) Proudduck, Me, Kimberlycun, Cindy Tey and Saimatkong. We have made promises in fulfilling their wishes in the campaign :) :)

It is indeed a meaningful charity to get involved in. If you wish to do a small part in supporting the campaign and us, you can help a little in my fund raising for little Nazhim’s bicycle and the necessaries. So far, I’ve raised around RM100. I’ve got more room for donations! My target to raise a few hundred before mid July to get him a bicycle, some riding protection equipments and some necessaries for Rumah Aman such as food, book, clothes or even money.

So people, please lend your helping hand in fulfilling my little beneficiary’s wish. You may only need to sacrifice one good meal, one box of cigarettes or even only one one piece of clothing to help them fulfill their wishes.

To know more about the details and my progress in the campaign, click here! :) And not to forget that I wish to thank to whoever who has donated and contributed to my TLC Promise Me fund raising. Thank you.

Little Wishes

Note : I know you might start to feel sick seeing my pictures here, but aren’t all blog self-centered? :)

Having long, smooth, silky, shiny, wavy and dark coloured hair is always my little wish. I really envy those girls with my dream hairstyles in the hair products’ commercials. However, it is going to be very hard for me to achieve because I’m born with frizzy, messy and uncontrollable hair wave.

My hair turned out to be such a mess after a hair modelling assignment. The waves all turned out bad due to the layered given by the hairdresser. Sigh. It turned out so dry, messed up and hard-to-manage that I had to set my hair – iron, apply serum, this and that every morning. What a hassle.

Here is the happy thing – My current hair is currently nicely waved, less dry, shiny and dark again! :) Although my hair is much shorter right now but I really love having these curls on me. Thanks to P&G hair products, I had my hair fixed and it is so much more manageable now :) Little wish got granted!

Did you realise that there are actually a lot of people who are less fortunate out there who has even simpler wishes waiting to be granted. Fortunate people like me and you get to wish for extra stuff, get to wish for things that are probably not necessary but there is a part of people who are wishing for very basic things. Perhaps someone to shop with, someone to eat with or to learn something that most people already know.

Now, here is a chance for us to reach the less fortunate and to help them in fulfilling their wishes. The Truly Loving Company a.k.a. TLC has came out with a campaign named ‘TLC Promise Me‘ where people get to pick up pledges in helping the needed ones. I’m proud to announce that I’m one of the campaign’s participant who has taken up a pledge! My pledge is to get an 8-year old boy a bicycle and also to teach him how to ride on it too! :) I think it is going to be really fun. I can wait to meet up with my beneficiary yet.

The campaign is going to be launched officially on the 5th July, Monday, 4.00 pm at Bangsar Shopping Centre concourse. It will be officiated by Dato’ Sri Shahrizat Binti Abdul Jalil, the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and everyone who is reading this is welcome to join the bloggers and participants of the campaign. Yah, besides me, there are few other bloggers who has also took up these pledges. Do come over to find out more in this meaningful event. See you there :)
